Jumping right in: I didn’t like “The Henna Wars.” I struggled through reading this book. The premise had potential, but the writing lacked excitement.
“The Henna Wars” covers LGBTQ romance between two brown girls, which rarely happens, and the story was dry. I was disappointed. There were so many awkward moments that just made me cringe. The genre is YA, but the writing seemed to be talking down to readers, which was a letdown.
Also, the plot was also slow. I wasn’t sure how or where the story was going at all.
⭐️⭐️ Two stars. The inclusion of immigrant Muslim characters and LGBTQ-themes was great, but the execution wasn’t right.
